There has always been something about a field of native grasses that makes me swoon. Anytime I would see one as a little girl, I wanted to run through it with my arms stretched out like wings. So It Is has a slightly different energy than most of the paintings in the Signs of Life Original Collection. A quiet allowing for what is — for tired grasses standing in frozen snow against a nearly invisible horizon. There is a little tree in the rapidly maturing white pine grove behind my house that has been nearing the end of her life for some time. Her brothers and sisters are growing a vibrant green while she stands among them, confident still, while slowly leaving her body behind. I have been admiring her rusty needles for some time, especially on a bright winter afternoon. My reminder that we don’t get to take everything with us as we journey on… This piece is part of the Signs of Life Original Collection.

This was one of the first pieces I created in the Signs of Life Original Collection, in solace of this past November, when for the first time, the land is quiet and only speaks in the whisper of wind, in the rustling of sleeping grasses. She rocks me to sleep and reminds me it is time to heal and to dream.

The very first painting I created in the Signs of Life Original Collection. During spring in the great north, we see many mornings where returning robins welcome the morning sun with a song and a peck at the frosted earth. A juxtaposition betwixt new life and winter’s icy fingers clinging to the awakening landscape. And though I swear it feels like November when I walk outside, it finally doesn’t sound like it…
